Join us as we delve into the delights of the Monterey Peninsula's sun-kissed beaches and discover the perfect spots for soaking up the summer rays.

Monterey:

The charming town of Monterey sets the stage for an unforgettable summer experience. Start your beach-hopping journey at Del Monte Beach, where expansive sandy shores and sparkling blue waters await. Situated on the northern edge of Monterey, Del Monte Beach is a picturesque stretch of shoreline that embodies the essence of coastal bliss. As you step onto the sandy shores, you'll be greeted by panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the distant silhouette of the Monterey Bay. Del Monte Beach is an ideal destination for leisurely strolls, sunbathing, picnicking, and even beach volleyball. With its gentle waves and inviting waters, it's also a great spot for swimming and paddleboarding.

Carmel:

No visit to the Monterey Peninsula is complete without a trip to the iconic Carmel Beach. With its rolling dunes, white sands, and striking views, this beach is a testament to coastal perfection. Unleash your inner child as you frolic in the waves, fly a kite against the backdrop of the azure sky, or simply lounge on the soft sands while relishing the warm sun on your skin. For those dog lovers, there is no better place to take your pup than Carmel Beach. It’s wide and safe for off-leash play. The beach's natural beauty is complemented by the charming village of Carmel-by-the-Sea, where you can explore boutique shops, art galleries, and indulge in delectable coastal cuisine. For a hidden gem, venture to the lesser-known River Beach, with perhaps the best sunsets on the Monterey Peninsula, framed perfectly by Pt. Lobos and Carmel Point. Just be careful getting into the water as it does have strong undertow. For those who don’t love dogs quite as much, or if Carmel Beach is too busy, dogs must stay on leash at River Beach, so it’s quieter and more peaceful.

Pacific Grove:

Pacific Grove, often called "America's Last Hometown," offers a tranquil respite amid the bustling coastline with two fantastic beaches.  Tucked away in Pacific Grove, Lover's Point Park offers a charming blend of natural beauty and recreational amenities. Bask in the warmth of the sun as you lounge on the sandy beach or find solace beneath the shade of towering cypress trees. Take a dip in the refreshing ocean waters, explore the nearby tide pools teeming with marine life, or embark on a kayaking adventure to discover hidden coves and coastal caves. The park also features grassy picnic areas, barbecue pits, and scenic walking paths, making it an excellent spot for a delightful beachside gathering. Asilomar Beach is the largest beach in PG and is a favorite with local surfers and boogie boarders, alike.

Nestled amidst the coastal beauty of Pacific Grove, Asilomar State Beach offers a serene retreat where you can truly unwind. This pristine beach, known for its shimmering sands and captivating rock formations, provides a tranquil escape from the bustle of everyday life. Take a leisurely stroll along the coastal trails, breathe in the salty ocean air, and revel in the panoramic vistas that stretch as far as the eye can see. Asilomar State Beach is also a favored spot for nature enthusiasts, offering a rich tapestry of tide pools filled with fascinating marine creatures.

Pebble Beach:

Known for its world-class golf courses and luxurious resorts, Pebble Beach also boasts stunning coastal vistas. Spend a day at Spanish Bay Beach, an exquisite stretch of coastline offering panoramic views of Monterey Bay. Marvel at the beauty of the rugged cliffs, watch the waves crash against the rocks, or take a leisurely walk along the coastal trail. This beach is known for its surfing, year round sunsets over the Pacific and whale watching. Just up the famed 17-Mile Drive is Bird Rock Beach, which is nestled into the coast line and out of the wind most days. With magnificent sunsets facing Cypress Point, enjoy a picnic or quiet moment watching the waves crash and listening to the seals bark on Bird Rock.

Big Sur:

Heading south along Highway 1, the majestic region of Big Sur unfolds, captivating visitors with its awe-inspiring natural beauty. Pfeiffer Beach, nestled amidst rugged cliffs and ancient rock formations, is a hidden gem. Admire the famous Keyhole Arch, capturing ethereal rays of sunlight, and stroll along the purple sands, unique to this beach. For adventure seekers, venture inland to the Big Sur River, a haven for swimming, kayaking, and picnicking. Immerse yourself in the pristine wilderness, surrounded by towering redwoods and cascading waterfalls.

Yankee Point Beach:

Little known, but publicly accessible Malpaso Creek Beach in the Carmel Highlands, is a secret spot you will want to put on your list.  The only other sandy beach in the Highlands, aside from Gibson Beach (which can only be publicly accessed from within Pt. Lobos State Preserve), Malpaso Creek Beach is a little cove and beachhead right at the end of Malpaso Creek as it flows into the Pacific.

The Monterey Peninsula is a coastal haven that invites you to embrace the sun, savor the sand beneath your feet, and revel in the beauty of the Pacific Ocean. Whether you choose to unwind on the shores of Del Monte Beach, explore the hidden treasures of Lover's Point Park, immerse yourself in the tranquility of Asilomar State Beach, or surrender to the allure of Carmel Beach, this remarkable peninsula promises a sun-drenched escape like no other. So, pack your sunscreen, grab your beach towel, and let the Monterey Peninsula become your gateway to sun-soaked bliss.
