Christmas Tree Lightings
Carmel-by-the-Sea Tree Lighting
Carmel's 2025 Christmas events include the annual City Holiday Tree Lighting and Carmel Plaza Holiday Party on Friday, December 5, beginning in Devendorf Park, with Santa’s arrival at 3:30 PM, then music and tree lighting ceremony at 4:30 PM. Another fun area event is the Grapevine Wreath-Making Workshops on Friday, December 5 (3-5 PM), Saturday, December 6 (11AM-1 PM) and Thursday, December 11 (3-5 PM) at the Earthbound Farm Stand on Carmel Valley Road.
Downtown Monterey Tree Lighting Celebration
Kick off the season with a classic community favorite. Enjoy hot cider, cookies, carols, and the lighting of the beloved tree in front of Colton Hall on Friday, December 5 from 5-6 PM. It’s simple, nostalgic, and full of warmth.

If you find yourself in New Monterey this season, be sure to swing by Steinbeck Plaza and check out their Christmas tree this year. Bonus - there’s nothing like viewing the moon rise over the bay, gorgeous city lights, delectable seaside dining options and gift shops all at your fingertips.
Dazzling Christmas Lights
Pacific Grove’s “Candy Cane Lane”
A local tradition for more than 60 years, Pacific Grove’s Candy Cane Lane neighborhood goes all out. Think glowing candy canes, animated displays and whimsical decorations throughout the entire community. This local’s favorite kicks off Saturday, December 6 and runs nightly through New Year’s Eve from approximately 5-10 PM every night.
Mission Fields in Carmel
Mission Fields is another local tradition for viewing Christmas lights. Homes in the neighborhood are decorated with traditional lights, creating a cozy and magical atmosphere and creates a great atmosphere for an evening stroll with the family. Grab a hot chocolate and stroll away — it’s pure holiday joy.
The Inn at Spanish Bay
Christmas time at the Inn at Spanish Bay features a popular gingerbread village display, seasonal dining options and festive décor including a giant Christmas tree in the lobby (perfect for selfies!). What better way to get in the spirit of the holidays than cozying up to the outdoor fire pits under a warm blanket, enjoying seasonal libations, incredible winter sunsets and the traditional nightly bagpiper performance.
“Brighten the Harbor “Lighted Boat Parade"
Gather along the harbor Sunday, December 7 from 5-7 PM to watch sailboats and fishing vessels glide by, decked in twinkling lights and holiday displays. The reflections across the water make this one of the most breathtaking sights of the season — perfect for photos, date nights, or family outings.

Meet Santa at These Locations

Visit Santa’s new house located next to Starbucks now until December 23 and capture the magic of the season! Bring your family, friends, and holiday spirit for a memorable photo with Santa. Hours are December 3-23, Monday through Friday December 3 through the December 12 from 3-7 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays from 11AM-7PM. From December 13 through December 23, Santa will be available 11 AM-7 AM every day.
67th Annual Santa’s Fly-In in Carmel Valley!
Santa arrives in Carmel Valley on Saturday, December 13 at 10:30 AM at the old airstrip then lead a parade through the village to the Carmel Valley Community Youth Center on Ford Road for a meet-and-greet and photos.
Santa on Old Fisherman’s Wharf
During “Christmas on the Wharf,” not only will you find live entertainment and holiday performances, but from December 5 through the 21st you’ll find Santa welcoming everyone at his festive Santa House on the Wharf. Santa will be there Fridays December 5, 12 and 19 from 5-8 PM, Saturdays December 6, 13 and 20 from 11AM-8 PM and Sundays December 7, 14 and 2t from 1PM-6PM. Kids and families can enjoy free Meet-and-Greets and photo opportunities with Santa and his elves beside the giant Christmas tree greeting kids with a “ho ho ho” and some maritime charm. There is also a toy drop sponsored by the Salvation Army where guests can donate toys in the spirit of the season or contribute to the red kettle. Expect beautiful backdrops perfect for holiday photos.
Ice Skating by the Bay
A holiday classic returns every year — the outdoor ice rink glittering beside the waterfront at Custom House Plaza. Whether you’re an expert skater or holding onto the rail, the charming coastal backdrop makes this one of Monterey’s most iconic holiday experiences. Evening sessions under the lights are especially magical. Skating is happening now until January 4, 2026 – Open Monday thru Saturday from 11AM-10 PM and Sundays and holidays (including Christmas and New Year’s) from 12 PM-8 PM. Cost is $16 per session.

Historic Holiday Events
Carmel-by-the-Sea Annual Inns of Distinction Tour
The Carmel Heritage Society is presenting the Annual Inns of Distinction Tour in Carmel-by-the-Sea on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 2-5 PM. The event is a self-guided walking tour of six historic inns which will be decorated for the holidays and offering tastings from local restaurants and wineries. Tickets are $45 for members, $50 for non-members, and $60 the day of the tour.
Pacific Grove’s Christmas at the Inns
Pacific Grove's "Christmas at the Inns" 2025 will be held on Tuesday, December 9, from 5:00-9 PM. This event is a walking tour of eight decorated inns in Pacific Grove, featuring live music and holiday treats at each stop. Tickets are $30/person.
Christmas in the Adobes
Perhaps the most enchanting holiday event in Monterey. Dozens of historic adobe buildings open their doors for two nights only, Friday, December 12 and Saturday, December 13 from 5-9 PM. Tickets are $30 for one night, $45 for two. Each adobe is decorated with luminarias, traditional décor, live music, and costumed hosts. It’s an intimate, candlelit walking tour that feels like stepping back in time.
